Efficiency Analysis of Cantrang and Gillnet Gears in Pemalang Regency, Central Java, Indonesia

by Himawan Arif S.

ABSTRACT

Fishers in Pemalang are small-scale in scale colored with traditional in nature particularly in allocation of inputs used.
The aim of this study is to analyse an efficiency (technical, allocative and economic) in input use of gillnet and cantrang gears in Pemalang Regency. Efficiency is the ratio output its input to achieve maximum production. The study also covered the cost and return analyse for the observed gears. Sampling method of multistages sampling is use to withdrawn. 125 gillnetters in TPI Tanjungsari and 100 cantrang fishers gears in TPI Asemdoyong. Frontier analysis with Maximum Likelihood Estimation (MLE) was used to analyze the data using LIMDEP Version 6.
The results indicates that majority of capture fisheries performed that the efficiency Gillnet has reached technical efficiency more than 80%. While cantrang is about 50% to 80%. The value of technical efficiency of gillnet is 0,880 and cantrang for 0,620. The value of allocative efficiency gillnet fishers equal to 1,820 while cantrang fish equal to 3,101. The gillnet economic efficiency is 1,601 and 1,922 for cantrang fishers. Technical, alocative and economic efficiency have catch equal to 1. Nevertheless small scale fishers are marginally in profit, such as shown by value of return and cost (R/C) ratio is 1,32 for gillnet and Cantrang equal 1,18.
An appropriate inputs allocation according to need will be maintained. Small scale fisheries in Pemalang still be amendable, but need existence government to control such as gears operation. This is in order to achieve the sustainable fishers resource fish stock.
